The SA Writers College sponsoring annual short story award 2024 to South African Emerging writers. The annual SA Writers College Short Story Competition is held to acknowledge excellence in creative writing in the Short Story form. The competition is open to any writer residing in South Africa who is unpublished, or has been published fewer than four times. Eligible and interested writers can submit new stories as per given guidelines on or before deadline.

SA Writers College Short Story Competition Prize Details
- First Prize: R10 000.00 and publication in an anthology of winning stories
- Second Prize: R 5 000.00 and publication in an anthology of winning stories
- Third Prize: R 2 500.00
SA Writers College Short Story Competition 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Entry is limited to South African Residents only, Competitors must submit a story of maximum word count of 2000 words, any entries exceeding the word count by 50 words will not be considered. The stories must be new to the competition, Already published stories will not be accepted, Only one store per entrant is allowed. Priority will be given to beginner writers.
SA Writers College Short Story Competition 2024 Application Process
All the entrants must submit stories via e-mail to Nichola@sawriterscollege.co.za, the story must be written in word document include the story title and your name (using a font such as Arial or Times New Roman, size 12, with no special formatting please), your email address and total number of words of the entry. Applicant make sure your story has been edited and polished according to tips and guidelines provided on our college site under “Writing Resources”, or on our webzine. Don’t include entrant name on the story page.
Mark your entry clearly with the subject line: SAWC Annual Short Story Competition, and submit according to rules.
SA Writers College Short Story Award Selection Process 2024
The story must be written in English with own full copy righted, entrants need to allow to publish stories on website, final judgement will be made by the Judges.
