The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in collaboration with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) offers PhD or doctoral fellowships University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to the students of all nationalities other than China for the development or advancement of science in developing countries which provides 200 scholarships of which 80 scholarships are provided by TWAS and 120 are provided by CAS, fellowship is offered for a period of four years.
Course offered
TWAS and CAS will offer PhD or doctoral degree scholarships for 200 students annually.
Fields of study
Selected candidates will receive scholarships in the fields of Agricultural Sciences, Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biological Systems and Organisms, Medical and Health Sciences including Neurosciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physics.
Stipend and Duration
PhD program is for a period of four (4) years where selected candidates will receive monthly stipend of RMB 7,000 or RMB 8,000 from CAS which includes accommodation and other living expenses, local travel expenses and health insurance
Eligibility criteria for CAS-TWAS President’s PhD Fellowship Programme 2024-25
Candidate should hold a master degree before the beginning of the fall semester that is before 1 September, 2024 and should meet the admission criteria for international students of UCAS/USTC , where the candidate should provide an evidence that the applicant will return to their home country after the completion of their studies in China according to CAS-TWAS agreement, they should provide proof of knowledge of English or Chinese language that is the candidate should have good writing and speaking skills in the language.
Target group
Non -citizens of China with all necessary requirements are eligible to apply for scholarship.
Age limit
Applying candidates should be under 35 years of age to apply for scholarship

Copy of regular passport, Complete CV, Original copy of the certificate of university including both graduation and post-graduation degree, Proof of certification of English or Chinese, research proposal, Photocopies of all abstracts and five published academic papers, Two reference letters and the applicants should not apply for both UCAS and USTC simultaneously and they can apply to one supervisor from one institute or school at either UCAS and USTC All the above supporting documentation must be uploaded in English or Chinese, otherwise notarial translations in English or Chinese are required, electronic version of supporting documents to be done in right format for online application
