Global Shining Light Award 2020 for Journalists from Developing Countries are awarded by global investigative journalism community, GIJN which is designed with an objective to recognize and celebrate these courageous investigative journalists and their work, every year many journalists are killed and are attacked, imprisoned or threatened for doing the journalism jobs genuinely, these are happening due to lack of freedom of expression that are occurring in the developing or emerging countries, but another problem that are occurs in the global attacks on reporter and on the media is due to the investigation which gives the efforts of the journalists makes the corrupted people to hear the uncomfortable truth, each year dozens of people are killed to cover the truths of the corruption and politics community and for carrying out important efforts in investigative journalism.

The recipient of the Global shining light award receives an honorary plaque, US$ 2,000, and a trip to the Global Investigative Journalism Conference where the candidate have to accept the award in front of hundreds of their colleagues from around the world.
Eligibility criteria for Global Shining Light Award 2020
To be eligible to apply for the contest the applicant should be the journalist, journalism team, or media outlet provided independent, investigative reporting, which is originated in and affected a developing or emerging country, and Was broadcast or published between the specified time, and they should be of an investigative nature, which is uncovered an issue, wrongdoing, or system of corruption which gravely affected the common good, and did so in the face of arrest, imprisonment, violence against them and their families, or threats and intimidation.
